My family’s story is like many San Antonio families–dedicated to public education and public service. My two grandfathers served in the military, and my two grandmothers were teachers in SAISD. My mom and dad carried on their legacy of public service, and all I have ever known is the importance of hard work in lifting our family and our community.
For my family, public education and public service weren’t just opportunities to make ends meet; they were a way to make a meaningful difference. Still, it also presents a chance to work towards creating the community and world we all know is possible.
I earned degrees in Government, Political Communications, and Educational Leadership. I gained experience as a legislative aide at the Capitol, where I learned the profound impact of policy on changing lives. I returned home to District 125 to teach U.S. History in SAISD, where I’ve spent the last 15 years helping students understand their past, their community, and their power to shape the future. That work earned me recognition as a TEA-Recognized Teacher and the Humanities Texas Education Leadership Award.
That is why I got involved in my labor union and other local organizations. I know that if we want to deliver for our students, then we have to fight for the decisions, policies, and investments that our students and school workers deserve. As a result, I have been an active member of Bexar County’s largest union, the San Antonio Alliance, Local 67, for my entire career. I have been in leadership since 2018 and currently serve as the Executive Vice President. In my union work, I have played a key role in ensuring that no one lost their job during recent school closures, as well as securing the most significant compensation increases for school staff, including the highest starting wage for hourly support staff in the region.
With my experience in leading large organizations and serving on governing boards focused on delivering for working families, I have a deep understanding of how workers keep our city moving. I chose to stay in HD 125 to teach, lead, and raise my family with my fiancé, Brittany, and our three children because I want District 125 to reflect and strengthen our community, our city, and our great state.
